Here is a pattern I have come up with for a headband suitable for a beginner. 

Please note that I am using American terminology for the stitches 

Using a chunky yarn and a size 7mm hook 

Chain enough stiches to fit around your head. Chain one turn and one double crochet per stitch to the end of the row. Chain one and turn Double Crochet the entire row chain one and turn continue this for 6 rows. Join the ends together.
